Benefits of Alternative Benching Systems
Enhance your lab’s ergonomics, flexibility, and collaboration with alternative benching systems. These innovative workstations provide advantages over traditional benches by optimising space utilisation and adapting to various tasks.

Types of alternative benching systems
Discover the ideal alternative bench system for your lab, including height-adjustable benches for ergonomic comfort, mobile lab benches for versatile workflows, and modular bench systems for customisable configurations.
Anti-vibration lab benches
Innova’s anti-vibration laboratory stand-alone benches provide a stable, vibration-free surface for sensitive lab equipment like balances and microscopes. By isolating and absorbing surrounding vibrations, they improve accuracy, reduce errors, and ensure reliable results in research and quality control applications.
- Constructed from heavy-duty 60×60 mm steel frame with welded joints
- Silica sand-filled frame for excellent vibration protection
- Mounted on fully welded base plates with adjustable feet for maximum stability
- Anti-vibration mounts on frame top to support the worktop
- Floating double-thickness Trespa or Velstone worktops, above the frame for enhanced vibration resistance

Island benches:
Our Island benches are central laboratory workstations accessible from all sides, making them perfect for multiple users and encouraging collaboration. Featuring flexible configurations, ergonomic designs, and built-in storage, sinks, and utilities, they optimise space, keep the lab organised, and supports a wide variety of scientific tasks efficiently.
- Maximise central lab space encourages collaboration
- Facilitate group work and shared equipment access
- Flexible configurations with integrated sinks, services and storage
Peninsular benches:
Innova’s peninsular benches extend from a wall or central bench to form a T- or L-shaped layout, providing access from three sides. This design makes them ideal for semi-collaborative work, allowing multiple users to share the same surface. With integrated storage, sinks, and utilities, they enhance workflow efficiency, keep the lab organised, and offer a space-saving solution for laboratories with limited floor area.
- Provide clear sightlines, enhancing supervision in teaching labs
- Peninsular benches save space while keeping areas open for movement and collaboration
- Flexible layouts can be arranged in L- or U-shapes to fit lab needs
- Designs can be integrated with storage, services, knee spaces and more.
- Provides ample space for large equipment or extended experiments
Mobile lab workstations
Mobile laboratory benches, available with optional shelving, cupboards, and drawers, offer a versatile way to optimise workspace efficiency. Built from durable heavy-gauge steel box sections, these modular units can be fitted with Trespa Toplab Base or alternative worktops to suit specific industry and application needs.
They can stand alone, integrate with fixed lab furniture, or be combined to form larger work areas. Equipped with heavy-duty levelling castors, these benches deliver stable, flexible workstations that can be easily relocated to meet changing workflow requirements.

Choosing the right alternative benching system
Selecting the ideal laboratory benching requires careful consideration of your lab’s size, workflow, budget, and equipment needs. Important factors include durability, chemical resistance, bench layout (island, peninsular, or mobile, anti-vibration), and integrated features such as storage and utilities. Choosing flexible, ergonomic designs ensures a safe, efficient, and adaptable workspace that meets both current and future laboratory demands.
