Shireland voted ‘Best Academy’ at the Celebrating Construction Awards
You can’t help but be impressed by the buildings and classrooms at Shireland Collegiate Academy in the West Midlands – it really is a secondary school of the 21st century.
We were delighted to hear that Interserve Construction, who we worked with at Shireland, had won the prize for Best Academy project at the 2015 West Midlands Celebrating Construction Awards. The school has made huge investments in its science facilities, and Innova is proud to have been involved with Interserve in transforming its existing laboratories into contemporary, state-of-the-art labs. From design to completion in just 12 weeks, these striking, inspirational, stimulating labs have had a massive impact on the learning environment.
Featuring Innova’s Hot Corners design with integrated storage, the new labs offer a flexible working space ideal for both practical and theory lessons.
A demonstration platform and teacher wall provide a focus for students, whilst the overall design shortens lines of communication, making the space more inclusive and easier to manage.
We have recently been speaking to staff and students at the Academy and were delighted to hear what an impact the new labs are having on their learning, creating spaces that are inspirational, easier to learn in and that offer much more scope for teaching and learning.
And for us, that’s a prize worth having.
