In recent years, Philips High School has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving into a high-achieving and thriving learning community where students make consistently strong progress across the curriculum and throughout the school.

The brief
As part of the ongoing development of learning facilities and following the successful securing of local authority funding, Philips High School planned to transform its laboratories and IT room, upgrading them from outdated interiors into safe, modern, and flexible spaces, complete with ample storage for resources.
As an existing customer impressed with the quality of our products, Innova was approached by the Business Manager in February 2022 to further enhance the interiors of their school.
After a detailed consultation and site survey, the scope of the project was finalised, which included blocking up doorways, ceiling and flooring work, M&E installations, and decoration. Innova’s designer then worked to create Laboratory and IT Suite layouts that would exceed the client’s expectations.
The school preferred a Laboratory wing design, as it allows all students to face the front of the class, improves circulation, and provides teachers with greater control over the learning environment.
Meanwhile, the IT suite was designed with straight benching to accommodate the maximum number of students while adhering to circulatory guidelines.
Both students and staff are thrilled with the new interiors, which offer modern, brighter spaces that will support the school’s high-achieving and successful learning community for many years to come.
The solution
In just six weeks over the summer, the interiors were completely overhauled, with turnkey construction services provided, including:

Removal of existing fitted furniture and safe disposal

Reconfiguration of existing gas, water and electrical services to suit new purposed layout working in accordance with the final drawings.

Data install, from existing server unit to new data outlets in location as per designs.

Supply and fit new vinyl flooring

Install of new fitted furniture manufactured by Innova.

Full decoration to all walls, sparkle clean and handover.
The new laboratories now feature a wing layout that supports a flexible environment for both theory and practical work, enabling teaching staff to accommodate various teaching styles and plan more hands-on learning activities.

The teacher demonstration area serves as a central focal point for showcasing experiments, while ample drawer, cupboard, and Gratnell tray storage helps keep the classrooms organised and clutter-free.
The Business Manager has recently briefed Innova to refurbish a further Laboratory in 2023!
