The brief
In March 24, Edward Finch Partnership approached Innova to design and quote for a six-laboratory refurbishment project at King Edward VI Five Ways School.
Following a thorough site survey of each room and a detailed review of the client brief, Innova’s designer created tailored plans for the laboratories.
A peninsular design was selected for all six rooms to maximise space efficiency. Each layout now accommodates up to 30 students per room, offers generous work surfaces for practical sessions, and allows plumbing and electrical services to be discreetly concealed along the perimeter, ultimately delivering significant cost savings.
King Edward VI Five Ways School can now continue to deliver their science curriculum to students in a modern, well-equipped environment designed to support engaging and effective learning experiences.
The solution
In late July 2024, Innova was appointed to design, manufacture, and install furniture for the laboratories. Once the client approved the new designs and colour schemes, the furniture was manufactured in our modern ISO 9001:2015 accredited facility to meet the exact specifications.
Over six weeks, Innova worked in partnership with Tru Contracts and the Edward Finch Partnership to ensure a smooth installation, delivering fully functional, bespoke laboratory environments.
Slope mounted services, off the bench
Each peninsular features a central sink unit for easy student access, whilst the electrical and gas services are located off the bench away from the work surfaces, prioritising safety and practicality within the laboratories.
‘This pioneering solution, now widely adopted by competitors, highlights Innova’s leadership and innovation in the field’.
Trespa TopLab Base work surfaces have been installed throughout the laboratories, ensuring exceptional durability and easy maintenance. Storage has been maximised with integrated cupboards within the workbenches and open Gratnell storage units positioned along the perimeter for convenient access and organisation.
