The brief
In 2017 Evans Vanodine planned to expand their H.Q. facilities and appointed Sunderland Peacock Architects to develop their eye catching designs for the extension.
Later that year Williams Tarr Construction commenced work on the new £1.9m building contract of the existing H.Q. offices and extension for additional offices, Microbiology labs, together with adaptations to the external works.
Early 2018 as part of the new build development, Innova was approached by Evans Vanodine to create interior designs for their new laboratories and offices.
By closely consulting with microbiologists and scientists to understand their needs, the laboratory designs were developed to provide ample space for all activities, minimise contamination and cross-contamination, and optimise circulation and workflow. The designs also account for new equipment and provide sufficient room for additional staff in the future.
Innova was subsequently appointed to deliver the furniture installation of the Microbiology, R&D and QC Laboratories plus offices based on the final designs.
The environment Innova has created for us has made a remarkable difference: Increased circulation space, improved workflow efficiency and ample room to accommodate extra specialist equipment. Our technicians have more space to focus and deliver consistently accurate results efficiently

The solution
The Microbiology lab now features a compact clean room area with lockers and a sink at the entrance to the main laboratory. Several dedicated testing zones have been established in the central lab featuring steel-framed island workstations, with mobile storage units for materials and equipment. DDA-compliant desks are positioned at the end of the benches for paperwork.
Ample storage has been integrated around the perimeter including double, single cupboards and drawer units, as well as space for specialist equipment such as incubators, fridges, glass washer and more.
The Laboratory houses a prep sterilisation zone equipped with a contamination table, modern autoclaves and bench mounted ovens to assist with microbial control. Whilst a dedicated desk/office space, enables the staff to record results and produce computerised test reports.
The R&D and QC labs have been relocated nearer to the production area, featuring distinct wet and dry lab facilities that provide room for future expansion. These state-of-the-art laboratories will support Evans Vanodine well into the 21st century, enabling the company to continue researching and developing new products for clients worldwide.
