Innova completes work on £5 million Science Block

Innova Design Group has completed a 12 room science installation as part of a brand new £5 million science block for Barton Peveril sixth form in Hampshire.

Barton Peveril is the seventh largest sixth form college in the UK with more than 3,000 students enrolled.

Liaising closely with key stakeholders at the college and the architect, interior specialists Innova created nine bespoke science laboratories and three preparation rooms.
Melanie Laing, director at Innova said: “In a design, manufacture and installation brief, Barton Peveril College asked us to deliver first class teaching facilities to give teachers the right platforms to inspire – and student’s the tools to excel in STEM subjects.

“Working closely with the team at Barton Peveril, versatility and functionality were identified as a huge priority. To meet this need we designed and installed flexible learning environments that incorporate great circulation space and an intelligent layout so they work both as inspiring classrooms and practical laboratories.

“Space and storage were also a key specification. So to seamlessly integrate teaching resources such as whiteboards and screens, Innova’s Teacher Walls were installed along with open shelving for books and bags.

“With all nine labs and three prep rooms now complete, we are delighted with the results. Above all, I hope the new science block keeps Barton Peveril’s budding scientists engaged for years to come and sets them on track for successful careers in STEM.”

Barton Peveril Principal Jonathan Prest said: “The new science centre allows us to explore science, technology, engineering and maths in a high-tech environment, enhancing our student experience. We are confident that this will inspire other young people to study STEM subjects with us, which is a vital part of the local plan for generating wealth and opportunity.”

Student Tamsin Newlove commented: “I’m studying chemistry, physics and further maths so having brand new science labs is just brilliant. I’m hoping that working with the best facilities now will help with my aim of studying at the University of Cambridge.”
