VIDEO: Manchester High School for Girls Laboratory Refurbishment
View on youtubeWatch a turnkey solution in action! We worked with Manchester High School for Girls to capture a full refurbishment - from design and manufacture through to rip-out and installation, transforming the schools multi-purpose science laboratories into two state-of-the-art physics and biology classrooms.
For the first time in their 141 year history of the school, Manchester High wanted to offer leading laboratories for science subjects rather than traditional multi-use labs.
Speaking about the classroom redesign, Dr Matthew Leach, head of physics said: ‘‘We were looking for something a lot more flexible for the teacher to be able to circulate around the room, and also to be able to see what’s going on.’’
Working with the school, Innova delivered a comprehensive solution comprising design, manufacture and installation of all furniture as well as M&E works, flooring, decoration, lighting and build works.
Dr Alice Walker-Taylor, head of biology, said: “When the students first saw the classroom, they were extremely happy. They didn’t used to like the lessons when they were in the previous lab, and now they are very enthused by their new surroundings.”
‘‘The fact that they have their bag rack means the lab is less cluttered. It’s very easy to see all of the students from the front of the class.’’
John Moran, bursar at the school added: “Working with Innova has been very positive experience. We’ve had consultations with the science department and the science heads, and Innova has responded really well. I’m very pleased with them.’’
