Penwortham pupils have designs on Lab of the Future
Year 9 pupils from Penwortham Priory Academy in Preston were invited to come up with ideas for the ultra-modern science classrooms as part of a trial run ahead of the launch of a national competition by education interiors specialist Innova Design Group.
And they certainly let their imaginations run riot, coming up with unusual ways of laying out a classroom and incorporating new technology into the labs themselves including 3D displays, video walls and holography.
Melanie Laing, Director of Innova Design said: “We’re always interested to find out what students think their classrooms should look like, because after all, they’re the people who are using them.
“The pupils’ presentations were very impressive – they really went to town and used their imaginations to create labs that were not only practical but really showed the shape of things to come”.
Matt Eastham, deputy headteacher at Penwortham said: “It’s great to find out what the students think about the teaching environment and to hear their ideas for how it can be improved.”
“The competition has helped them to think creatively and built on their team work and presentation skills. They’ve come up with some fantastic designs and it’s exciting to see what they think the classrooms of the future will look like.”
