Lady Manners School New Laboratory to Honour a Teacher’s Dream!
Contemporary Laboratory to Respect an Inspirational Colleague
For over three centuries, Lady Manners School has stood as a cornerstone of education, with its current location in the picturesque town of Bakewell serving as its home since 1936.
Lady Manners School has spent over 300 years continually improving its facilities to benefit students. Recently, one legacy has shone particularly bright: the extraordinary impact of Mrs. Sinnott, a dedicated science teacher.
CONTACT & MORE
The school is delighted with its cutting-edge new laboratory, a realisation of Mrs. Sinnott’s vision and a testament to her enduring impact. This project has been a fulfilling partnership between the school and Innova.
“This fantastic new facility will be valued and enjoyed by both current and future students”.
The brief
As part of their ongoing commitment to developing it’s teaching spaces, Lady Manners came to a grinding halt with some of their plans as government funding reduced, leaving them somewhat deflated in the face of their ambitious ideas to completely refurbish their laboratory.
This project was deeply meaningful as the school aimed to honour the late Mrs. Sinnott, a beloved science teacher who passed away in 2018. Passionate about Physics, she had always dreamed of a modern, inspiring space to enhance science teaching, but sadly, she was never able to see this vision realised.
Fortunately, all was not lost. Having previously completed a successful food technology room, Innova was approached to bring the project to life.
Thanks to the dedicated fundraising efforts of the Parents Association, pupils, governors, and friends of the school, the necessary funds were secured. Innova then set out to design an inspiring teaching space that would not only honour but exceed Mrs. Sinnott’s vision.

The solution
The primary impact of the laboratory design lies in its clean lines and open sense of space. By positioning services away from the worktops, the layout ensures the teacher has clear sight lines throughout the room, while also discouraging students from misusing equipment, thereby extending its longevity
The spacious circulation around the benches enhances the overall flow of the room, providing easy access for all students. Epoxy sinks, chosen for their durability and safety, are strategically placed throughout the space to prevent overcrowding and ensure efficient use of the room.
The colour scheme is clean and aligned with the school’s branding, featuring a balance of white and grey tones. The flooring is made from durable, anti-slip polysafe material, complementing the colours of the plinths and internal panels. Blue edging and side panels add a modern, vibrant touch, enhancing the contemporary feel of the space.
Featured products
Ample storage is always a challenge, but the design meets this need effectively. Each bench features lockable cupboards below, ensuring secure storage of equipment. The teacher’s desk is custom-built with the same durable materials as the cupboards, and every hinge, lock, and handle is carefully chosen for its strength and functionality.
