Food Technology classroom renovation

After creating an outstanding new Arts and Science block for Southlands High School, Innova was invited back to refurbish part of the original 1950s building. Our task: to replace an outdated Food Technology classroom with ‘state of the art learning spaces that would last.’

The Brief

The old food technology rooms were outdated and overcrowded due to increasing numbers of students. As part of an exciting redevelopment programme, the school asked Innova to create two stimulating, modern and functional food technology rooms, plus a learning resource space.

The Solution

After carefully considering the needs of students and teachers, Innova’s team designed a peninsular bay layout, enabling the class to be divided into smaller groups for practical work. We also created a highly visible central demonstration area, encouraging communication between teacher and pupils. Vast storage spaces were built in to house food and equipment.

As the room needed to be future-proof, a neutral colour-scheme was selected for the fixed furniture and a bold green accent wall was added to create a stimulating contemporary feel.

Once Southlands had approved our 2D and 3D drawings, Innova’s in-house manufacturing facility brought the concepts to life. Our installers worked with the contractor to fit the rooms during term time, minimising disruption. From white goods to feature walls, the Food Technology rooms were installed on spec, on time and on budget.
